02/13/2011: "Training Day"

013 (29k image) Estelle and I practiced maneouvering in Half Moon Bay Marina then sailed to our house in Holloways to await some breeze. The boys came out on the paddlebaords and I put them to work cleaning the bilges. They did not stay long!
eDoc is not easy to turn in a tight space. One central non steering engine means that the boat has to be moving to turn with the rudders. While awaiting boat speed her windage comes into affect and needs to be allowed for. Combine a current into the problem and getting on and off the dock is a challenge. Fortunately Half Moon Bay has little current and our berth is pretty well protected from the trades but the 'Knob' that give the town of Yorkeys Knob it's distinctive name.
Late morning and the breeze kicked in. We tacked to the mouth of the Barron River and a rain squall wind line approached. We gybed and tore away downwind along the northern beach suburbs, spray flying as the speedo touched 20 knots.
A good day to shake out the cobwebs after Cylone Yasi.
