07/24/2008: "Me takem wife"

In Vanuauta when men get married they either 'take' or 'steal' a wife. The correct way is to 'take' a wife and pay her family around 5000v ($50 Aus) and three to five pigs. The more pigs the better the wife apparently. If you do not do this then you have 'stolen' your wife. Forget political corectness.
Fletcher made friends with this lovely French girl and they explored the reef islands together. Here they stand outside a deserted NiVan house. The islanders occasionanally visit and have built a small settlement to house them if they cannot sail back in their dugout outrigger canoes.
