06/12/2006: "out of the water briefly"

Estelle and Baden took the day off school to assist in cleaning the hull, servicing the saildrives and changing the anodes. With their help and Catherine supplying the coffee we managed to be in and out of the water within 48 hours. We have a copper impregnated epoxy resin as our anitfouling. It has been in the water for two years and had not been cleaned for about 8 months. There was light slime growth but no much else and it hosed off without much effort. The advantage of this system is no toxins into the ocean, long life ( 10 years) and the ability to wipe the hull down without losing the valuable paint and the effect. So far no barnacles, minimal growth and we have broken even on cost as it is now into the third year.
A busy two days but another step closer to departing for the Lousiades. The current high (1040) in the Bight is creating strong trades off Queensland so we are happy to sit them out for a week or so.
