03/18/2008: "Cyclone Gene hits Vuda Point"

With a day to go before Gavin flew back to Cairns Cyclone Gene started tracking across Fiji toward Nadi and Lautoka. It hit about 2100 hours and a wild night was spent in 50-65 knot winds and lashing rain. Although secure and snug in the marina a constant survelance was done of lines, debris, fenders and other boats. Not much sleep was had and as Cyclone Gene moved overhead and offshore she intensified to Cat 3 and kept us busy during the day. Fortunately the flight out of Fiji was delayed (until the plane could actually land!) and Gavin managed to make it leaving Catherine and the kids to restore order to the Chaos.
