06/07/2007: "Futuna Anchorage"

After a lovely downwind reach Chaotic Harmony arrived in Futuna 32 hours after leaving Savusavu - 280 miles on an overnighter. It was a spinnaker run to make the sunset anchorage. Unfortunately the small bay at Futuna is the only place to anchor and it is exposed to the ocean rollers and completely exposed to the sou'west. We did an anchor watch the first night as there is nowhere to drag to except onto the reef three boatlengths behind.
Futuna is a French protectorate country, English rarely spoken and the bank only opening once a month! Chaotic Harmony had no francs and were thus stuck to credit card usage. We were keen to have croissant and bagette and were bitterely dissapointed to discover that the monthly ship forgot to bring flour and thus there was no baking! Ahhhhh - we crossed and ocean for this treat!!!!
