01/27/2007: "Wet Season in Fiji"

Chaotic Harmony has stayed in the Mamanutha region over the festive season as a few Cyclones have whizzed their way around (but not through) Fiji. Cruising in the tropics in the Cyclone Season is usually light and variable winds, irregular cooling showers and generally pleasant weather. What is needed is a good weather eye - usually on the downloaded weather faxes - and a good bolt hole if a developing low decided to dance.
The LeSueur's have spent Christmas on Navini Island. Gavin returning to Cairns in Australia to do some Doctoring in early December and late January. The entire Chaotic Harmony crew left Fiji for Mallacoota in Victoria to visit Joan and Bill LeSueur for Joans' 70th. Some serious kitesurfing was had on the Mallacoota Bar although Gavin decided that his one millimetre troipical wetsuit just does not cut it in the Victorian weather. Hypothermia was narrowly avoided most days...
Kitesurfing is the perfect adrenalin sport for multihullers - the equipment packs into a small space, is light and easily carried on planes. It is probably easier to learn than windsurfing but does require some serious lessions to learn safely.
