Racing a cruising cat

In August we sailed our Crowther 43 Catamaran ‘Favourite Child’ from Cairns to Airlie Beach.  After a few days play in the Whitsunday Islands we spent a week racing in the ‘Airlie Beach Race Week’.  We are a cruising cat and entered in the Performance Handicap Division alongside nine other multihulls.  ‘Favourite Child’ raced with a a washing machine and most of her cruising gear and it was a wonderful opportunity to renew and upgrade systems to make her sail fast and efficient.  Racing, and the regulations associated, force safety gear upgrades, halyard and sheet review and replacements, weight assessment (do I need twenty novels….) and gear servicing (time to grease those winches).
